learnPAYROLL Launches Online Payroll Skills Test to Ensure the Highest Calibre of Payroll Professionals

learnPAYROLL, the payroll training specialist, have launched their new Online Payroll Skills Test to ensure organisations are getting the most from their existing payroll department as well as verifying whether job applicants possess up-to-date payroll skills.

The online skills test simplifies the recruitment process by enabling employers to evaluate the competency of job seekers. The test determines whether applicants have the requisite payroll skills to fulfil their role and removes any uncertainty about a candidate’s actual skills.

The online skills assessment also has the added benefit of enabling employers to check the technical competence of their existing payroll staff and subsequently the opportunity to act quickly and provide an adequate training programme to cover any shortfalls and gaps in their knowledge of payroll legislation.

This can potentially save organisations thousands of pounds in recruitment costs and can also prevent the heavy fines incurred when payroll professionals make mistakes, for example when underpaying on tax & NI and providing an incorrect employment status. By testing candidates at an early stage, firms can save both time and money by identifying and recruiting the right people at the outset.

The skills test consists of 30 questions selected randomly from learnPAYROLL’s comprehensive database of hundreds. Advantages of the skills test are:

Ken Gurr, payroll education director of The Learn Centre, said: “Employing and retaining the best staff has become increasingly important during these financially turbulent times. Our Online Payroll Skills Test provides employers with the facility to test out potential and existing payroll staff and to ensure that their skills are up-to-date with the latest legislation.

“Many organisations have good procedures in place for selecting and interviewing job applicants but do not have the ability to test whether these applicants have the necessary knowledge needed to do their job efficiently. In the same vein, organisations also need a guarantee that their existing payroll staff is working to its full potential. It is essential that any job holder is fully trained in order for them to fulfil their role effectively.”
