Press Release - 12th December 2008

One in six UK employers to cut payroll staff in 2009
Some 16% of employers plan to reduce the number of specialist payroll staff they employ next year as a result of the worsening economic conditions, according to new research published today by payroll specialists, learnPayroll.
In response to these changes, learnPayroll is warning employers that to avoid non-compliance with regulations, they need to maintain at least a minimum skill base within their organization. To meet this need, learnPayroll has developed a range of flexible online payroll courses that allows staff to study in their own time, and substantially reduces costs for companies.
Courses start throughout 2009 with the first commencing in January. The courses cover all the essential subjects at basic and advanced levels.
Ken Gurr, Education Director of learnPAYROLL, said: “These are tough times for all employers and it’s no surprise that roles are being cut. But businesses need to ensure that there is at least a minimum level of payroll expertise in their organisations. Our research shows that many employers value the opportunity to allow staff to study flexibly. These courses mean that staff can better balance their work with study and, being an online solution, they do not need to take time out of the office to attend a course at a training centre.”
