Business crisis looming as HR managers lack training

HR managers are urgently calling for more training and support to help them manage the human capital issues facing their organisations this year.  Almost two thirds (63%) of managers feel they do not have the necessary training or support to help their companies in the current economic climate, according to research released today by training experts learnHR.

The in-depth survey of 280 HR managers reveals that despite nearly half of managers having to take on additional responsibilities (46%), the training in new skills needed to fulfil these roles is not being given.  Managers believe handling redundancies legally and efficiently and managing change and performance will be the most pressing HR issues this year.  Almost one quarter (24%) of those questioned feel they need further training and 18% feel that the training that has been provided is not beneficial.

Christine Tebbutt, Education Director of LearnHR expresses concern: “HR managers have a vital role to support companies in these difficult times.  It is imperative that they receive the right support and training to work effectively and to deliver the various and pressing needs of their employers.  For too many, this is lacking.  Failure to address this will see HR managers and departments not being able to run at full strength during one of the most difficult years on record.  And this in turn may lead to mistakes and legal consequences – which in a few cases may lead to the collapse of a company.”

As well as a lack of training, over half (54%) of those questioned say that companies do not look after their health and wellbeing sufficiently or offer beneficial packages.  Only 36% of HR managers feel secure in their job and 54% say that this constant stress is affecting personal well-being, as well as professional performance.
